Abstract

942,352. Pneumatic springs. DAIMLERBENZ A.G. Nov. 8, 1961, No. 40007/61. Heading F2S. In a spring force accumulator 2 comprising a pot-shaped housing 3 divided by a correspondingly shaped elastic diaphragm 5 into two compartments 7, 8 containing respectively a compressible medium, e.g. nitrogen, and an incompressible medium such as oil acting as a transmission medium, means are provided which prevent the free surface of the diaphragm 5 from bearing closely and tightly against the wall of the housing 3. As shown in Fig. 1, the diaphragm 5, sealed by a cover 4 in the housing 3 which communicates through a valve 10 with a working unit, not shown, is provided on its outer face with radially disposed humps 11 which in different radii are offset in relation to one another with respect to the centre from which they emanate. As shown in Fig. 4 the raised portions take the form of strip-like headings. In a modification, Fig. 2, the upper end of the diaphragm 15 is sealed within the housing 14 by the cover 17 which carries a cylinder 19 for a piston 13 connected e.g. to a part of a wheel suspension, not shown. The lower end of the diaphragm 15 sealingly engages the corresponding end of the cylinder 19 communication between which and the compartment 21 is by means of an apertured or valved plate 23.
