Galanthamine hydrobromide is prepared by extracting galanthamine from snowdrops of the species Galanthus nivalis and Leucojum aestivum, separating the galanthamine from other alkaloids by absorption on an ion-exchange resin or an activated acidic clay and converting it to the hydrobromide salt.ALSO:A pharmaceutical preparation useful in the treatment of diseases of muscle and of the nervous system comprises galanthamine hydrobromide formulated in sterile aqueous solution for sub-cutaneous injection.
