941,941. Cheese cutting machines. G. WRIGHT & SON (DORCHESTER) Ltd., and D. N. WRIGHT. June 19, 1962 [Aug. 8, 1961], No. 28628/61. Heading A4C. In a cheese cutting machine, the cheese to be cut is placed on a circular table 13 which is pushed up by a plunger-andcylinder device 14, 15 until it is in line with a circular frame member 21 supported by posts 20, and at the same time two or more cutting wires 23 are pulled upwardly by the cheese (at this stage cutting into if only slightly or not at all, Fig. 3 not shown). The wires 23 are then pulled down through the cheese and into table grooves 16, by two or more plunger-and-cylinder devices 25, 26. One end of each wire 23 is pivotally connected by an anchorage member 22 to a post 20 and the wire passes, preferably diametrically, across the table 13 to an opposite post 20 and over a pulley 24 and down through this post for attachment to a plunger 25. In a control system, Fig. 6, a two-way valve 41 initially connects a change-over valve 43 to a pressure source and the valve 43 is caused to connect the upper end of cylinder 15 to pressure and its lower end to exhaust. A cheese is placed on the table 13 and valve 41 switched to shut off valve 43 from pressure. This causes a reversal of the pressure connected to cylinder 15 and the plunger and table are raised, in the meantime air exhausted from the cylinder 15 holding shut a valve 45 to prevent air pressure being communicated to cylinders 26 until the table is fully displaced.
