Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0941752/C2/1> where R1, R2, R3 and R4 represent alkyl groups and are the same or different, X represents a non-toxic anion, n is 2 or 3, m is 1 or 2, and p and q are whole numbers the values of which are such that the compound is electrically neutral and compounds wherein a hydrogen atom in any one or more of the CH2 groups is substituted by a methyl group. The compounds are prepared alkylation of the corresponding tertiary base. Bis - (6-diethylamino-3-oxo-4-oxahexyl) - ethylamine is prepared by hydrolysing bis-(2-ethoxycarbonylethyl) ethylamine with acid to give bis (2-hydroxycarbonylethyl) ethylamine hydrochloride converting this to the acid chloride and esterifying with diethylamino-ethanol. Similarly was prepared bis-(6-dimethylamino-3-oxo-4-oxahexyl) ethylamine. Bis-(2-ethoxy carbonyl-ethyl) ethylamine is prepared from ethylamine and ethyl acrylate. Chloracetic acid reacted with ethylamine yields bis (hydroxy carbonyl methyl) ethylamine hydrochloride which esterified with methanol gives bis (methoxy carbonyl methyl) ethylamine and this with diethylamino ethanol and sodium gives bis-(5-diethylamino-2-oxo-3-oxapentyl) ethylamine.
