[Also in Division F3] Means for ejecting a seat from an aircraft comprises a gun for effecting initial ejection of the seat in a predetermined direction relatively to the aircraft, a primary rocket motor independent of the gun for accelerating the seat in the same direction, having a thrust passing through or near the centre of gravity of the seat and occupant, and an auxiliary rocket motor for producing a thrust in a direction such as to affect the flight path of the seat. The apparatus is as described in Specification 920,545, with the addition of the auxiliary rocket motor. In Fig. 2, two (or any number of) canisters 25 are screwed to bosses on the rocket motor pack spine 4, each containing a charge 38 and having a nozzle 27, ignition being by hot gases from a cartridge 30 detonated by a firing pin 34 on a piston 33 impelled against the cartridge by the gases in the spine against a biasing spring 36. The resulting thrust may compensate for a pitching moment occurring on ejection. The canisters 7 and 25 may extend on one side only of the spine. In Fig. 8, two canisters 7e with a nozzle 58 are mounted on the rear upper portion of the seat frame. One canister contains a detonator cartridge, and the nozzle may be adjustable in direction.
