Abstract

941,466. Tents; plant protectors. W. G. THOMSON Ltd. Oct. 20, 1960 [July 28, 1959], No. 25782/59. Headings E1A and E1B. [Also in Division D1 ] A structure is formed by a number of blocks aligned end to end and connected together by a flexible connecting member which, when under tension, maintains the structure rigid but when the tension is relaxed allows it to be rolled up. The connection 1 may be in the form of strips, cables, chains, links, or cords and located on the inner or outer side of the blocks 2 which may be of wood, metal, reinforced concrete, or rubber. A number of the structures can be connected together to form a support for a covering 43, and the extremities can be connected together by rigid or elastic tie rods or by a ground sheet 4 which may be an extension of the covering 43; alternatively, they may be secured to a foundation or pegged to the ground. The structure may form part of a tent, plant protector, tunnel support, concrete shuttering, or dome, or of a canopy on a boat, raft, ship, or lorry and may be covered by textile, plastic sheet, netting, wood, concrete, plain or corrugated sheet metal, glass, or earth.
