Abstract

Monomeric bis-amidocarboxylic acids of the formula:-<FORM:0941156/C2/1> wherein n represents an integer of from 1 to 4 and each R is a C5-10 polymethylene group, are prepared by adding an acid of the formula HOOC (CH2)n COOH to an aqueous solution of a diamine of the formula:- <FORM:0941156/C2/2> until a pH of from 7.1 to 7.4 is reached, recovering the resulting precipitated salt derived from two molecules of acid and one molecule of diamine, and eliminating water from said salt to obtain the required amide, e.g. by heating under reduced pressure.
