Abstract
940,897. Vibrators; controlling clutches. ALLEN-HARPER Inc. Nov. 7, 1961, No. 39868/61. Headings F2X and F2L. A gyratory vibrator comprises a rotor 42 attached to the upper end of a sleeve 39 which is driven at its lower end by a belt 30 and is rotatably mounted by bearings 40 in a sleeve 32, the sleeve 32 being mounted at its lower end in an annular flexible diaphragm 36, and an eccentrically mounted driven member 47 which is adapted to be clutched to the rotor 42. The driven member 47 comprises a plate 76 which is adjustably mounted on a clutch plate 52, in order to vary its eccentricity, and carries on its upper surface a bearing member 84 on which one end of a connecting rod 86 is journalled. The other end of the connecting rod 86 is secured to the frame of the apparatus to be vibrated. The clutch has a friction facing 54 and is held engaged by a spring 37 acting on a collar 58 of a shaft 48 secured to the clutch plate 52. The clutch may be disengaged manually by operation of a lever 60 which carries at its end an element 68 which is adapted to contact a disc 70 on the shaft 48 and thereby move the shaft 48 axially against the force of spring 56. The clutch disengaging element 68 has a friction facing 72 thereon which acts as a brake. In a modification, the clutch and brake operating means comprises a solenoid plunger 118 carrying a disc 120 having a friction facing 122.
