940,553. Weighing apparatus. CO-OPERATIVE GRANGE LEAGUE FEDERATION EXCHANGE Inc. March 15,1962 [March 27,1961], No. 9981/62. Heading G1W. The amount of insecticide ejected over a unit area by a mechanical spreader may be measured by a calibrator comprising a waterproof tube 1 (Figs. 1,2) preferably of synthetic plastics, glass or metal open at the top and containing a weight sufficient to maintain the tube upright when floated in water, a scale 7 using the water level as an indicator graduated to read amounts of pesticide per unit of field area which the spreader delivers, a shorter supplementary seale 8 showing in combination different bandwidths of spread and their respective lengths, of test runs, the area being the same in each case, whereby the amount of pesticide gathered from a test run of the spreader, and placed in the tube, will give a direct reading of the amount of pesticide spread per unit of field area which the spreader delivers. In a test run liquid pesticide may be collected in a pail or bottle and if in granulated or powder form on a cloth, the pesticide not being allowed to fall on the ground. The reading is obtained by floating the tube in a pail of water as shown in Fig. 2. The scale 7, for example, may be calibrated in pounds per acre or liquid ounces per acre,or pounds or liquid ounces over a time basis. The spreader can then if necessary be adjusted, to deliver a recommended dosage.
