Abstract

940,414. Heating and cooling dies. SOC. FRANCAISE DES VERRES IGARD. Feb. 1, 1962 [Nov. 21, 1961], No. 3803/62. Heading B5A. [Also in Division H5] A heating device for effecting the rapid heating of a moulding die comprises a transformer 1 whose secondary winding is shortcircuited by a moulding die 5, the upper part of the die being cooled to prevent or reduce deformation of the die cylinder disc to the effect of the rapid temperature rise. The electrodes 2, 3 of the secondary winding of the transformer are silver soldered to the base-plate 4 of the moulding die, whilst the upper portion 7 of the die cylinder comprises a hollow annulus 8 for the continuous circulation of a cooling fluid through inlet and outlet pipes 10, 11. The die may be adapted for the production of optical lenses by the polymerization of synthetic resin, and the moulding process takes place below the level of the cooling annulus 8, a plunger 14 being provided for the easy removal of the finished lens.
