Abstract

939,743. Boiling pans. BURGER EISENWERKE A.G. May 5, 1961 [May 6, 1960; Oct. 5, 1960], No. 16381/61. Class 64 (1). The pivot 4 of a tippable, double-walled, steam heated boiling kettle 1 is placed in front of and approximately at a height half that of the kettle and comprises two separate rotatable pipes 5 and 6 used for the discharge of condensate from and the supply of steam to the jacket of the kettle respectively. The pipes rotate in aligned bearings 7, 8 and are connected through 90 degrees bends to pipes 5<SP>1</SP> and 6<SP>1</SP> which open at the bottom of the steam jacket, the other ends of the pipes 5 and 6 being connected via stuffing boxes 11 to fixed discharge and supply pipes 9 and 10 respectively. A lever 12 rigidly connected at one end to the pivot is further connected at its other end to the piston of a pivoted pneumatic or hydraulic assembly 13, the arrangement being such that the kettle may be tipped through an angle greater than 90 degrees. In the untipped position the kettle is closed by a hinged lid 15, rotation of the kettle causing its rear edge 18 to engage with a projecting surface 17 on the supporting arm 14 of the lid thus opening the same. The lid is kept open by means of a spring or counterweight and a similar system is used to move a filling pipe 19 out of alignment with the kettle on tipping. The kettle is mounted in a double-walled housing 20 having an apertured top surface with flanges over which flanges formed on the upper surface of the kettle fit when the latter is in the untipped position. A forwardly sloping, removable plate 23 having a collecting channel and outlet pipe 25 is provided in the lower part of the housing. The kettle may also be provided with an outlet pipe 31 which enables its contents to be removed without tipping. It is stated that the rate of tipping may be varied by controlling the amounts of oil or water supplied to the assembly 13. In Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), a kitchen unit employing two such kettles and other cooking apparatus is shown.
