Abstract

939,328. Patterns. HOWE SOUND CO. Nov. 3, 1961 [Jan. 27, 1961], No. 39474/61. Class 83 (1). A method of making coned patterns 18, e.g. of wax, for the production of turbine blades with coolant passages comprises providing a first die half 10 having a cavity corresponding to the portion of said cavity on one side of a surface approximately bisecting the position of the cores 28 in the pattern, providing a second die half 12 having at least one obtrusion 21 formed in the face thereof corresponding to the extent that said pattern portion will be occupied by the cores introducing pattern material 30 between said die halves, Fig. 2, placing core members 28 in the impressions 23 made in the pattern portion by the obtrusions, providing a third die half 22, Fig. 5, having a cavity corresponding to the rest of the pattern, and introducing pattern material into the cavity formed between said first and third die halves 10, 22. The die half 12 may comprise projections which , provide intermediate areas in the pattern portion 30 where the cores will be unsupported so that pattern material injected into the cavity between the die halves 10, 22 will completely surround the cores.
