Abstract

937,332. Extruding corrugated tubes. CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS A.G. Feb. 16, 1962 [Feb. 17, 1961], No. 5995/62. Class 87(2). In a continuous process for producing flexible corrugated thermoplastic tubing the hot plastic is extruded through a tubular die and periodically slowed or arrested in a longitudinal direction so that corrugations form in the tubing as it cools. A cylindrical or frusto-conical core 3, which may have a conduit for a coolant, is secured to the die core 1 so that the friction between the core 3 and the tube 4 causes corrugations to be formed. In an alternative embodiment the corrugations are formed by gripping tools which grasp the cooled tubing 5 and move it forward intermittently.
