Abstract

937,237. Instrumentation of reactor vessels. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. June 30, 1961 [July 14, 1960], No. 24637/60. Class 78 (1). The level of material in a fluidized bed in a chemical reactor vessel is indicated by two probes 5 and 35 placed within the reactor and positioned at the same level. Probe 5 is heated by heater 19 and encloses thermocouple 14. Probe 35 encloses thermocouple 30. The two thermocouples are included in the circuit shown and the difference of temperatures is reflected on voltmeter 36. When no material reaches the level of the probes voltmeter 36 registers its normal reading. When however material reaches the probes and covers them the rate of loss of material from the heated probe changes and a change takes place in reading of voltmeter 36. Thus the voltmeter registers whether or not the material reaches its predetermined level. Two such pairs of probes may be employed at respective high and low levels within the reactor to indicate minimum and maximum levels.
