A low voltage current is passed through a release member in a refrigerated vending machine to prevent or free the member from jamming as the result of ice or frost formed on it. The current may be increased during times when a door giving access to the machine is open and during times when a solenoid which operates the release member is energized. A resistor may also be employed to warm the door hinge.
