Abstract

936,985. Coating frozen confectionery with solid particles. BRODRENE GRAM A.S. March 1, 1961 [March 5, 1960], No. 7504/61. Class 28 (1). A coating apparatus comprises an opentopped container holding particles of dry material, e.g. cocoa, sugar, bits of chocolate, &c., into which frozen shaped bodies, e.g. ice cream, are lowered and to which the dry material is applied by being thrown up by blades or wings fitted to two rotating shafts mounted within the container. Frozen shaped bodies 5, after superficial thawing are picked up and swung from a freezing table to the positions shown in Fig. 1. The frozen bodies 5 are lowered to position 5<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, and the shafts 7 and 8, with the wings or blades 9, are rotated in the directions shown so throwing up the dry material against the adjacent side walls which guide the material towards the shaped bodies. A screw conveyer 13 feeds dry material into the apparatus from a feeding container 14 and this conveyer 13 should preferably have means of speed control governed by the load on the driving means of shafts 7 and 8 such that an approximately constant level of the powder is maintained in the apparatus.
