865,428. Sand mills; continuous mixing appliances. FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT Ltd. and BEECH, A. S. Dec. 31, 1958 [Jan. 3, 1958; March 7, 1958], Nos. 339/58 and 7452/58. Classes 59 and 86 [Also in Group XXII] Foundry sand treatment apparatus comprises a belt conveyer and a series of chain-driven cylindrical mullers above the belt. Sand is delivered to a first endless belt conveyer 22 from a hopper 40, additives are added from conveyers 41, 42 and the material disintegrated and mixed by paddles 44 and damped by a water spray 48 before falling on to a second belt conveyer. Above said second belt is a series of mullers 27 each of which is supported in swinging arms 29 so that vertical movement of the muller is possible. A stop 55 at the outer end of the arm 29 limits the lowermost position of the muller. The mullers are chain driven from the belt drive-motor 21 at a speed greater than the speed of the belt. Members 54 between adjacent mullers carry adjustable plough blades and at the exit end of the belt there is a bladed member 58 driven by a motor 60 for loosening and aerating the sand-mix. From the second belt the material falls to a third conveyer with similarly-mounted and driven mullers thereabove, and two bladed members 58 driven by a motor 60. Specification 771,359 is referred to.
