Abstract
936,913. Printing-surfaces. N. NORLIN. Feb. 1, 1960, No. 3479/60. Class 100 (2). A blank strip for preparing a planographic printing plate comprises a bi-metallic metal foil comprising alternate layers of the components of a bi-metallic planographic printing combination, one layer being 0.1 to 0.4 millimetres thick, covered by a coating of light-sensitive or sensibilizable material. If a supporting plate is used, it may be of aluminium or alloys thereof, iron, artificial resin, or paper laminates. The foil is 0.1-0.01 mm. thick, the upper layer being 2-5Á thick and applied galvanically, the foil being produced as a web and cut. The foil is pretreated before application to the support by removal of fat or oxides, roughening, coating with adhesive, or coating with soluble metal, and is secured to the support by soldering, heat and pressure, chemical treatment, or gluing with adhesive agents, latex, solutions of rubber or artificial rubber, epoxide glue, or polyester glue. The foil may be on one or both sides of the support, in the latter case the printing plate being usable twice. The marginal areas of the support are left free of foil. Where no supporting plate is used, the support layer of the foil is 0.1-0.4 mm. thick. Metals other than those of the bi-metallic combination may be incorporated in the foil as intermediate layers to obtain a stronger fixation of the upper layer or obtain a sharper etching. The support layer of the foil may also be of brass, zinc, aluminium or copper.
