Abstract

The invention comprises disazo dyes of formula <FORM:0936800/IV(a)/1> wherein B is a para-phenylene or -naphthylene radical and one at least of the substituents X and Y is an unsubstituted sulphonamido or carbonamido group. The dyes are prepared by diazotizing a suitable 4-amino-azobenzene or 4-amino-1-phenylazonaphthalene and coupling with a suitable 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone. The dyes give yellow to bordeaux shades on polyester fibres. The following dyes are prepared in examples:- 4-aminoazobenzene or 21-chloro-3,6-dimethoxy-4-aminoazobenzene or 3,21-dimethoxy-4-aminoazobenzene or 3,21-dimethoxy-6,51-dimethyl-4-aminoazobenzene or 4-(31-nitrophenylazo)-2-hydroxethoxynaphthylamine --> 1-(31-sulphonamido-phenyl)-3 methyl-5-pyrazolone; 31-sulphonamido-4-aminoazobenzene --> 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone; 4-aminoazobenzene --> 1-(31-carbonamidophenyl)-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone.
