936,630. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. March 27, 1962 [Jan. 4, 1961], No. 313/61. Class 35. A combined electric motor and compressor unit in a fluid-tight casing 1 has the motor 3 mounted at one end and the compressor at the other, the casing having a fluid inlet 6 at or adjacent the end incorporating the motor and an outlet 7 for fluid from the compressor 5 at or adjacent the opposite end, a baffle 9 being provided to direct cooling fluid over the motor. In Fig. 1 a motor compressor is housed in a cylindrical container with semi-spherical ends 2. The motor 3 is mounted at one end of the container in a vertical position over the compressor. The vapour inlet 6 feeds into a perforated annular baffle 9 of inverted dish form, so that liquid entrained in the vapour is trapped, the vapour flowing over motor windings 10 and entering the compressor. An alternative form of baffle is illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown).
