Abstract
936,595. Altitude indicators. MINISTER OF AVIATION. June 18, 1962 [June 7, 1961], No. 20519/61. Class 4. An altimeter presentation device has a counter 20 affording a digital altitude reading, a pointer 11 affording an analogue indication and means 15, 17 for displacing the pointer indication a required amount relative to the counter reading so that the pointer indication of altitude may be set to read with respect to the same, e.g. sea level, datum as the counter reading, or with respect to a different datum, e.g. the altitude with respect to sea level of a place at which an aircraft is to land. The counter 20 is driven by shaft 14 from a servomechanism in accordance with changes in altitude; and needle 11 is driven through differential 13 from shaft 14 and knob 15. A counter 23 shows the difference in height between the datum of counter 20 and that of the pointer indication. An indicator may show when pointer 11 is reading with reference to a datum other than that of counter 20. The scale of pointer 11 may be moved to alter the pointer reading relative to the counter reading.
