Abstract

469,838. Computing-scales. BLYTH, J. D. March 10, 1936, No. 7200. [Class 106 (i)] A computing-scale for finding the equivalent height in Standard Atmosphere according to the International Commission on Air Navigation as indicated by a standard I.C.A.N. aneroid when the air temperature is known comprises two relatively movable members, one of which A has a uniform scale thereon representing density heights and the other B has a scale uniformally graduated to read altitudes, a temperature scale and datum line being marked on opposite members. The scales are arranged in accordance with the formula Hs=1À22Ha-1665+111T where Hs = density height in feet Ha = altitude in feet and T = temperature in degrees Centigrade. The computing scale may be straight, circular, or cylindrical ; the scale may be adapted to fit the face of a standard aneroid or altimeter and would correspond to the scale B.
