936,587. Collapsible boxes. H. BERKES. Nov. 1, 1960 [Dec. 25, 1959], No. 37446/60. Class 18. A collapsible box or case in Fig. 8, comprises a bottom panel C having longitudinal battens 4, two end panels A and B, each having transverse battens 2 pivotally attached at their lower ends to the battens 4 and two detachable side panels E, having transverse battens 8, each side panel being arranged to fit between the end panels and to rest on the bottom panel with the battens 8 carrying the exterior surface of battens 4 on the bottom panel, Fig. 2, and lid D, Fig. 2, having transverse battens 10 and 11 is placed to fit between the battens 2 and 8, with the battens 10 and 11 engaging an exterior side of the panel 3 and battens 2 of the panel A, respectively. The lid may be secured by bolts, pins or screws inserted through holes 13 in the battens 2 or holes 16A in the panel B, Fig. 8, or alternatively, or additionally, by metal angles 14 fixed with bolts 15, Fig. 6 (not shown). When the box is collapsed the lid together with the side panels, whose battens 8 are spaced differently so that they may be nested together for storage, are stowed away in the space provided by the battens 4 of the bottom panel, the length of the batten 11 of the lid being such as to fit between the battens 4, Fig. 8. In another embodiment in Fig. 10 the battens 4 may be provided on the underside of the bottom panel so that the upper surface may be covered with a cloth or soft material to convert the box into a stretcher.
