936,248. Batteries. TSOI NING. July 10, 1961 [July 21, 1960], No. 25496/60. Class 53. A dry battery is sealed by surrounding it with a tubular casing 13 of insulating material, locating a metal terminal plate 19 at one end in conductive relation with an electrode 11, said terminal plate having a body portion 14 and a flange 20, and crimping the rim 21 of the casing between the flange and body portion to form a fluid-tight seal in a single operation by a tool 23 which first directs the rim between the body and flange and then deforms the flange to form a fluid-tight seal. Both ends of the casing may be sealed in this way. The casing 13 is preferable of polyethylene and the tool may be rotated and heated. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), a two-cell battery bas an auxiliary terminal secured and sealed in the side of the common casing which may be used to plug into a socket.
