Abstract
936,190. Developing machines. AGFA A.G. March 1, 1960 [March 3, 1959], No. 7279/80. Class 98 (1). In an apparatus for the continuous development of photographic roll film fed from a supply roll carrier to a take-up roll carrier, one of said roll carriers at least is movable so as to vary their separation and thus to enable a variable number of processing tanks to be arranged between them. As shown in Fig. 1, a base 1 carries a U- shaped bracket 4 for positioning member 13 which contains the take-up roll-carriers, and a pair of rails 2, 3 along which can be positioned, and locked by cross-bar 14 and nuts 15, member 5 containing feed rolls 6. Intermediate processing tanks 10, 11, for developing and fixing, respectively, have independent liquid circulating pump devices housed in parts 16 and supplied via pipes 27 while pipe 17 supplies water to the washing tanks 12 which are individually provided with U-shaped pipes 23 for connection with each other, a discharge pipe 19 being common to all the tanks, each of which is provided with an outlet stop-cock. As shown in Fig. 2, the juxtaposition of two tanks provides bearings for chain-driven rollers 41 between side-plates of head-pieces fitting closely inside the side-walls 31 of each tank, the said head-pieces each carrying a frame as in Fig. 5 having three locating positions for a lower roller 59 carried in bearing blocks 55 engageable by the flanged portions 60, 62 of the frame. A central partition can be formed by sections 73, 72, 71 arid 63, the latter being formed with two tubes or channels having apertures on one side, on opposite sides of the partition, for the circulation of liquid, the other sections being adapted for attachment one to the other to form a partition of the required depth according to the position of the lower roller. Additional jockey rollers may be included to keep the driving chain under tension. The chain may have interchangeable links or chain lengths according to the desired length of processing path. In the embodiment described there is a chain at either end of the roller spindle, the two chains supporting between them a bar for attachment thereto of the material to be processed.
