Abstract

An artificial fertiliser is produced by incorporating a constituent in powder form, or adding another substance in powdered form, the particles of which powder have been coated with a water repellant substance. The powder may be urea, urea formaldehyde, diammonium phosphate, ashes of organic matter, inorganic compounds containing water soluble phosphorus, clay, kaolin and calcium carbonate. The coatings may be fatty acids or their salts, silicones, or aliphatic amines and their salts. The coating may be applied by emulsifying it in water, mixing in the powder to be coated and then precipitating, or it may be applied in a dry powder blender with the temperature above that of the coating material but less than that of the powder. From 0,1 to 10% by weight of coating agent to powder may be used, and 1 to 10% by weight of coated powder may be incorporated in the fertiliser.
