Abstract

935,467. Light polarizing eyeshields. E. KASEMANN. Feb. 27, 1962 [Feb. 27, 1961], No. 7629/62. Class 97 (1). An eye shield or a welder's helmet comprises two crossed polarizing filters and, mounted between them a rotatable double refracting disc which controls the amount of light passing through the combination. As shown, the double refracting disc 2 is mounted between crossed polarizers 1, 3. The rotation of the disc is controlled by an armature 4 and coil 6 which is part of a circuit containing a switch 8. The switch 8 is controlled by a relay 9 which is in a circuit completed only when the welding electrode 12 is moved near the workpiece 13. When the circuit of relay 9 is closed the relay opens or closes the switch 8 according to whether it is in the position 8<SP>1</SP> or 8, respectively. The disc 2 could be rotated by means of a rotating armature acting through a cable wire.
