Abstract

Coating compositions suitable for application to floors, decks and the like are made by treating a raw filler material with an organic silicate or an incompletely polymerized polymer thereof, and subsequently mixing the so-treated filler with a liquid cross-linkable resin binder. A cross-linking agent for the binder may be mixed with the composition immediately prior to application, which may be by a trowel or float. Fillers mentioned include sand, quartz, tripoli, diatomite, asbestos, carbon black, coke, charcoal, wood flour, cork and ground coconut shell. Suitable binders include unsaturated polyester resins, polyurethane intermediates and epoxy resins. In Examples (1) sand of two different particle size ranges, silica powder and chrome green pigment are mixed, partially polymerized tetraethyl orthosilicate is added thereto and the mixture stirred; an epoxy resin and a polyamide cross-linking agent are then incorporated; (2) emery grit, asbestos, barytes and red iron oxide are mixed with partially polymerized ethyl orthosilicate, then with an epoxy resin and liquid polysulphide rubber, and finally an amine adduct and titanium dioxide are incorporated.ALSO:Coating-compositions suitable for application to floors, decks and the like are made by treating a raw filler material with an organic silicate or an incompletely polymerized polymer thereof, and subsequently mixing the so-treated filler with a liquid cross-linkable resin binder.
