Abstract

Polyisocyanates are stabilized against discolouration by mixing therewith less than 0,1% of its weight of a polyhydroxy aryl compound in which two or more hydroxyl groups are directly attached to the same monocyclic aryl nucleus. Polyhydroxy compounds specified are pyrocatechol, pyrogallol, hydroquinone, resorcinol and nordihydroguaiaretic acid. Polyisocyanates mentioned are diisocyanates of hexamethylene, tetramethylene, 4,41-diphenylene, 4,41-dicyclohexylmethane, stilbene, ditolylmethane, dixylylmethane and 3,31-dimethoxy-diphenylene; di and tri isocyanates of benzene, toluene, naphthalene and phenyltolylmethane; and triphenylmethane tri-isocyanates. In examples tolylene diisocyanate is mixed with catechol, resorcinol, pyrogallol, nordihydroguaiaretic acid and compounds falling outside the scope of the invention, and the colour properties of the compositions compared.
