Abstract

Polyether-urethane/polyurea copolymers are produced by heating a composition comprising (1) the reaction product of (a) an isocyanato-terminated prepolymer formed by the reaction of a polyether glycol with an excess of an aromatic diisocyanate with (b) a ketoxime having a M.W. of less than 200 and (2) at least one organic primary diamine having a pkb of less than 10.6. The preferred polyether glycols are polytetramethylene ether glycol and polypropylene ether glycol and the preferred diisocyanates are 2,4- and 2,6-toluene diisocyanate, m-phenylene diisocyanate and 4,41-methylene bis(phenylisocyanate). Suitable ketoximes are acetone oxime, methyl-ethyl-ketone oxime, methyl isobutyl ketone oxime, cyclohexanone oxime, acetophenone oxime, and benzophenone oxime. The diamine may be p, p1-methylene dianiline, meta-phenylene diamine, 2,4-toluene diamine, ethylene diamine and 1,6 - hexamethylene diamine. In general the prepolymer is chain extended by heating the composition from 70 DEG C. to 150 DEG C. A diol having a M.W. of less than 350 may be added in addition to the polyether glycol in the preparation of the isocyanato terminated prepolymer.
