Abstract

933,965. Toasting apparatus. MICROCELL Ltd. July 14, 1961 [July 15, 1960], No. 24788/60. Class 28 (1). In an apparatus for toasting bread, a carrier for the bread is biased towards loading position but can be moved into toasting position where it is held for a timed period. The carrier 17 can be depressed into toasting position 17B against the action of springs 11, connected to the main frame 10, and held in this position by a catch 2. A sleeve 21 attached to the carrier is slidable on a cylinder 4 filled with liquid and in which slides a piston formed with a small hole 27, through which the liquid can pass when the piston moves in either direction, and an aperture 12 closed by a non-return valve through which the liquid can pass only when the carrier moves from toasting to loading position. The piston-rod carries a cross-bar 7 attached by springs 8 to the sleeve 24. When the carrier is depressed, a switch 16 controlling the heating elements is actuated, and the springs 8 are extended, but the movement of the piston is resisted by the liquid in the cylinder so that the bread is held in toasting position for a predetermined time until a projection 9 on the bar 7 releases the catch 2 and allows the springs 11 to return the carrier to loading position. Means for varying the temperature of the heating elements is provided.
