Abstract

933,957. Ammunition packaging and launching. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. May 25, 1960 [July 23, 1959], No. 25243/59. Classes 9 (1) and 92. An inflatable enveloping cover 1 for a missile 2 on a launching apparatus 5 has an attached frangible portion 3. The cover and portion 3 are made of rubber sheet of e.g. plasticized polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, or a composite lamina of two or more plastic sheets, or a rubber or plastic impregnated or coated fabric, and may be laminated with metallic foil. The mouth of the cover is in the form of a ring which engages a concave portion of the apparatus 5 and is sealed by a ring 4. In a modification the cover comprises a rigid tube of e.g. glass fibre reinforced resin sealed (as in Fig. 4, not shown), while the frangible portion is of a plastic, e.g. polystyrene, and is retained beneath an annulus within the cylinder (Fig. 3, not shown). A protective end cap may be fitted and is removed before firing. Specification 843,037 is referred to.
