Abstract
933,243. Furnace walls; radiant panels. COUPE & TIDMAN Ltd. Dec. 20, 1961 [Dec. 21, 1960], No. 43960/60. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). [Also in Group XI] An interlocking refractory element comprises a generally longitudinal body 1, a longitudinal rib 2 on one side and a complementary shaped longitudinal recess 3 on the opposite side for pivotal interlocking engagement with similar elements, the engagement being only by longitudinal motion. Another recess, 4, is provided to receive an electric resistance heating element. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), this recess may be formed by two adjacent elements. Another modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), has projections which form incandescent areas when used with gas heating. The element may be made from fireclay, sillimanite, fused alumina or other suitable material. The elements may be arranged in circular formation with the recess 4 either inside or outside, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) or in flat planes, Fig. 4 (not shown). In conjunction with special blocks the elements may form angles or corners, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), or may be anchored to a wall by a co-operating tie-member, Fig. 7 (not shown). They may be applied to furnace or muffle walls, hot-plates, grills and oven assemblies using electric heating elements and to gas-fired grills, radiants and heat radiating panels.
