A multiple system circular stocking knitting- machine has a number of stop motion devices 3a, 3b, 3c each provided with a lamp 2a, 2b, 2c which illuminates the location of the defect operating the stop motion. As shown, stop motions 3a, 3b, 3c are associated with feelers 6 whose ends 7 are engaged by any needle latches which may be projecting. If a latch engages the . feeler 6 of guard 3a, relay Ra is energized, relays 8, 8 ; 9, 9 ; 10, 10 move to positions 8, 8a ; 9, 9a ; 10, 10a and the lamp 2a is illuminated. A switch is provided by which all the lamps may be illuminated together without a stop motion being operated.
