932,719. Road surface boxes. W. W. TAYLOR. June 20, 1960, No. 21631/60. Class 107. A manhole cover assembly comprises a cover formed of two triangular surface plates 15 each provided with three supporting lugs 36, 26 extending outwardly from the vertices of the triangle and a frame 10 with base 16 and upstanding peripheral wall 17 defining an opening of generally square section provided at diagonally opposite corners 21 with single recessed seats 25 and at its other corners 22 with double recessed seats 35 to receive the cover support lugs. The cover lugs and their frame recessed seats are correspondingly tapered in a downward direction. When the road is resurfaced the level of the cover is raised by a pair of shims 58 each formed with with two flat arms 58 connecting depending sockets 59, 60 which are tapered externally to fit within the frame recesses and tapered internally to accept the cover supporting lugs. The shims may be held in position by anchor bolts which extend through holes 65 in the base of the sockets and through bores 38, 28 provided in cross-flanges 37, 27 which extend across the bottom of recessed seats 35, 25, respectively.
