In a rolling thrust bearing, the rolling elements 50 are enclosed in a ring 52, the bottom surface 34 of the lower thrust plate 30 slopes upwardly and inwardly towards the axis of the bearing, and the top surface 42 of the upper plate 38 lies substantially parallel to said bottom surface, such that when a heavy axial load is applied, the thrust plates distort, and part of the load is carried by the ring 52 (Fig. 4, not shown).
