Abstract

932,609. Nozzles. M. WIDENMANN. Sept. 28, 1960, No. 33376/60. Class 69 (3). A jet pipe, particularly for fire extinguishing purposes, has a three-way spherical plug valve 3 within a housing 2 and arranged so that in one position the flow of liquid supplied through a hose coupling sleeve 1 is cut off, in a second position, shown in Fig. 1, liquid flows unimpeded through the pipe 5 to the outlet nozzle, not shown, and in a third position the liquid is fed through inclined slots 16 in an element 4 and thereby whirled so that it leaves the outlet nozzle as a spray. As shown, the slots are formed in a sleeve 4 projecting into the valve housing, and an annular space 18 is provided between the sleeve and valve. The latter has a straight-through hole 6 and a transverse bore 7 leading into it, and when the valve is moved by the lever 8 to the spray position in which the bore 7 faces the oncoming stream, liquid flows about the valve and through the space 18 as well as through the slots. In the cut-off position the bore 7 faces the outlet nozzle. In Fig. 2 the slots are formed in the end of the pipe screwed to the housing and leading to the outlet nozzle, and the pipe, which may be integral with the nozzle, is held in the desired position by a threaded ring 33. The valve is adjusted by a lever 8 acting through a pin 24; the nozzle pipe may be of plastic of high electrical resistance and low heating coefficient, and may include longitudinal and transverse ribs on its outer surface.
