Abstract
Cyclooctene is obtained by contacting cyclooctadiene-1,5 with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst comprising palladium as the sole active component until a significant drop in hydrogen uptake rate occurs and separating the cyclooctene from the catalyst. The palladium may be colloidal or supported, and 0,1-10% by weight based on octadiene is added. The temperature may be -15 DEG to 150 DEG C. and the hydrogen pressure 1-50 atmospheres. The drop in reaction rate, usually amounting to about a fiftieth may occur after a few minutes up to one hour according to conditions.
