Abstract

931,547. Adjusting body height. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Nov. 4, 1959 [Nov. 13, 1958], No. 36461/58. Class 108(2). A levelling valve for a vehicle with a pneumatic or hydraulic suspension system comprises a fluid pressure inlet valve 9, an exhaust valve 11, and an outlet 8 connected to the suspension system (not shown). A main shaft 13 coupled to the vehicle axle and carries a cam 16 for actuating a pumping plunger 17. On the opposite side of the shaft is a locating plunger 21. Fulcrummed on a pin 23 on the inner end of the locating plunger is a rocking lever 24 having forked upper and lower ends which engage a pin 27 on the cam 16 and a roller 28 on the upper end of a second rocking lever 29 respectively. The lower end of the lever 29 lies between pins 33, 34 abutting respectively against the inlet and outlet valve 9 and 11. When the shaft 13 is rocked the lever 29 opens one or other of the valves 9, 11 to adjust the pressure in the suspension unit so as to maintain the chassis at a predetermined level. This level is determined by the position of the pin 23. The plunger 21 may be actuated to displace the fulcrum pin 23 and move the lever 29 to open the inlet valve 9 and thus the level of the chassis will be raised until the lever 29 has returned to the neutral position. The rocking lever 24 is locked against movement during the travel of the vehicle by spring loaded stop plungers 38 actuated by fluid pressure from the pumping plunger 17. A blow off valve may limit pressure applied to the plungers 38 and the pressure may leak away when pumping ceases.
