Abstract

931,364. Metallurgical converters. VEITSCHER MAGNESITWERKE A.G. Oct. 10, 1960 [Oct. 9, 1959], No. 34672/60. Class 72. A metallurgical converter has a refractory lining divided into two parts, one of which is less durable than the other, the less durable part being bounded at its lower edge by a plane which lies, in the upright position of the converter, close to but above the highest elevation of the bath and parallel thereto, and at its sides by edges extending through the lining from lines on the interior of the lining at which the lining is intersected by a second plane which, in the discharging position of the converter, lies parallel to and closely below, the surface of the bath, the less durable lining extending to the lip of the converter and including that portion immersed in the slag during discharging. As shown, the two parts of the lining comprise the more durable part A, based on magnesite, and the less durable part B, based on dolomite, the latter being bounded by the lines 11, above and close to the highest level of metal in the vessel, and 12 close to and below the level of metal in the pouring position. The intersection 13 of the lines, where the lining is subject to the most intense attack, lies entirely in the more durable lining.
