The capacity of a suspension-circulation treatment plant is increased in an apparatus in which agitator 8 circulates liquid from the reaction zone 5 to a superposed distributing zone 9, through outlets 10 into separating zone 6 and via outlets 11 back to the reaction zone, untreated water being supplied to this circulation by channel 12. By means of the throttling valve 20 the volume of water flowing into the purifying basin can be two or three times as large as that flowing into the separating zone.
