930,344. Ships' navigation lighting. A. VREUGDENHIL. June 21, 1961 [June 21, 1960], No. 22408/61. Class 118. The direction in which a ship turns is indicated by an arrow comprised by illuminating a pattern of electric lamps contained in downwardly pointed conical covers 4. By having conical-shaped covers the appearance of illumination produced by reflection from the covers is avoided since they will not reflect light from the horizon and above into the horizontal. By pointing the covers downwardly they are made to throw out light all round so as to be visible from all quarters. Two double-headed arrow arrays are preferably arranged one on each side and above a ship's bridge, the shaft and one head of each arrow being illuminated by throwing a two-pole switch to indicate a turn. The intensity of illumination is controlled to cope with varying conditions. The bridge has pilot indicators to show the state of the signal.
