Abstract
The invention comprises N-polyhaloethylthio imides of mononuclear carbocyclic 1,2-dicarboxylic acids wherein the polyhaloethylthio group contains at least three halogen atoms selected from chlorine and bromine atoms, at least one of which atoms is attached to the carbon atom adjacent to the sulphur atom. The parent acid is preferably a substituted (e.g. by NO2) or unsubstituted phthalic or tetrahydrophthalic acid. Methods of preparation involve either reacting an alkali metal salt of the corresponding imide with a polyhaloethyl sulphenyl halide or direct chlorination of an N-polyhalo-ethyl-thio dicarboximide which lacks one or two chlorine atoms adjacent to the sulphur atom, e.g. in the presence of sulphuric or chloro-sulphuric acid (triethyl phosphate is also present in an example). The products are fungicides and plasticizers.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions for use on plants comprise N-polyhaloethylthio imides of mononuclear carbocyclic 1,2-dicarboxylic acids wherein the polyhaloethylthio group contains at least three halogen atoms selected from chlorine and bromine, at least one of which atoms is attached to the carbon atom adjacent to the sulphur atom. The parent acid is preferably a substituted (e.g. by nitro) or unsubstituted phthalic or tetrahydrophthalic acid. Other active toxicants may be present.
