Abstract

A process for the manufacture of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone by oxygen-containing gas (e.g. air) oxidation of cyclohexane is characterised in that after steam stripping of hydrocarbons from the product the residue is neutralised with alkali, distilled in a short contact-time evaporator and the distillate fractionally distilled to separate cyclohexanol from cyclohexanone. The cyclohexanol may be converted to cyclohexanone which is admixed with the main feed to the distillation train employed in the initial fractional distillation.
