Abstract
930,011. Percussive tools. BOHLER & CO. A.G. GEB. March 21, 1960 [March 21, 1959], No. 9939/60. Class 124. A control means for a rock drill feed comprises a control cylinder controlling a motor to advance a feed cylinder along a feed element, compressed air being admitted to one end of the control cylinder to move the control piston and energize the motor when the feed piston has moved a predetermined distance in the feed cylinder. As shown, a feed cylinder 1 connected to a feed screw 3 has a feed piston 4 under constant air pressure in a space 7. A control piston 10 has one end 12 under the same constant pressure and is provided with a groove 14 which, in one extreme position of the piston, connects a supply of compressed air to an air motor driving the feed screw 3. A pipe 16 connects the other end 13 of the piston 10 to the feed cylinder so that when the feed piston moves past the pipe 16 the constant pressure is applied to the end 13 of the control piston, the end 13 being of greater area than the end 12 and the control piston is moved to the one extreme position resulting in operation of the screw 3 and advance of the cylinder 1. When the cylinder has advanced so far that the skirt of the piston 4 passes the pipe 16 the piston 10 returns to its original position and stops the motor. The control piston may be urged to its original position by a spring, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), and the screw 3 may be replaced by a rack.
