Abstract
929,959. Reflex reflectors. R. G. C. JENKINS (J. H. Lemelson). July 5, 1960, No. 23546/60. Class 97 (1). The reflector comprises a transparent sheet of material having a front refracting fan formed as several parallel bands of convex focusing elements and, disposed behind the sheet, a set of elongated parallel strips of light-reflecting surfaces, each strip being either concave with its centre of curvature at the focus of the focusing element opposite thereto or the strips being interdigitated with a second set of strips of light transmissivity differing from that of the first set, both sets being located at the focus of the elements, and the arrangement being such that parallel light falling upon the reflector is reflected differentially according to its angle of incidence. As shown in Fig. 1, the reflector comprises convex focusing elements 14 and concave reflecting elements 18, the centre of curvature of each element 18 being at the focal point of the element 14 opposite thereto. With this arrangement, as a light source moves across the front of the reflector, an observer of the source will receive an on-off light flashing effect. In Fig. 2, the reflecting elements 24 alternate with plane reflecting surfaces 28. In Fig. 3, a transparent sheet 30 with convex focusing elements 34 is joined to a sheet 32 which is a reflex reflector. On the rear surface of sheet 30 there are provided a set of translucent strips 36 alternating with a set of transparent strips 38. In another embodiment the strips 38 are lightabsorbing while in yet another form two sets of interdigitated strips are provided.
