Abstract

929,802. Couplings. SANDERS ASSOCIATES Inc. Aug. 15, 1960, No. 28230/60. Class 38 (1). A flexible printed circuit cable 10 comprising a sheet of plastics material having embedded therein a plurality of flat, thin conductors 11 has an integral coplanar terminal 12 on each conductor, each terminal having a small opening for mechanical engagement over the upstanding, terminals of an electrical component, e.g. the terminals 13 of a multiple wafer rotary switch. The terminals 12 may be disposed to form a circular pattern corresponding to the switch terminals 13 and a slot and an aperture may be cut in the terminal area of the cable 10 to receive the rotor shaft 14 of the switch when the terminals 12 are superimposed on the switch terminals 13 and soldered thereto. Fig. 6 shows how the circular pattern may be formed by three groups of terminals, one group being in the main plane of the cable and the other two groups being disposed in another parallel plane after having been folded around and over the conductors of the main plane. The laminate structure of the cable comprising copper conductor, oxide coating and encapsulating plastic insulation is also described (Fig. 9, not shown).
