Abstract
929,140. Machine tool details. POWER JACKS Ltd. Feb. 7, 1962 [Feb. 14, 1961], No. 4654/62. Class 83 (3). In a drilling &c. machine, workpieces 13 are clamped on the table 10 at drilling stations A, B, and loading or unloading stations C, by hydraulic units 16, four of which are provided at each station, connected to a pump 24, the pumps being actuated in turn, as the table is indexed by an actuating unit 33 fixed to an arm 43 on a support 12. Each unit 16 comprises a cylinder and piston 17, 18, connected to the pump 24 by a conduit 23, and each pump comprises a cylinder and piston 26, 27, a non-return valve 25b, and a relief valve 30 actuated by a hand wheel 31. Unit 33 comprises a pneumatic piston and cylinder 35, 36, supplied with air from a compressor by a pipe 40, the supply being controlled by a valve 41 operated by a lever 42. Unit 33 is rigid on support 43, which is vertically slidable on support 12, and carries a hook 44 which is engageable with a hook 45 adjacent each pump 24. In operation workpieces 13 are loaded at station C, unit 33 is raised to engage hooks 44, 45, and is then clamped. Air is supplied to unit 33, which operates pump 24 to clamp the work. Unit 33 is lowered, the pressure being maintained in units 16 by non-return valve 25b, and the table is indexed to move the workpieces to station A. After completion of the drilling at stations A, B, the workpieces are removed at station C by opening relief valve 30. In a modification, workpieces are clamped on a machine bed which moves linearly, and the system may include a pressure accumulator.
