Abstract

A composition used in impregnating fibrous woven or non-woven material for shoe stiffeners comprises an emulsion of unplasticized polystyrene, an emulsion of polystyrene plasticized with dibutyl phthalate, ammonium carbonate and "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark). A copolymer of styrene and polybutadiene is another suitable plasticizer. The impregnated material is heated to decompose the blowing agent to give a porous product.ALSO:A composition used in impregnating fibrous woven or non-woven material for shoe stiffeners (see Group IV(a)) comprises an emulsion of unplasticized polystyrene, an emulsion of polystyrene plasticised with dibutyl phthalate, ammonium bicarbonate, and "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark). A copolymer of styrene and butadiene is another suitable plasticiser. P.V.C. and P.V.A. are specified alternatives to polystyrene. The impregnated material is heated to decompose the blowing agent to give a porous product.
