[Also in Group XIV] In a trousers press, the trousers are pressed between two flat members 6A, 3A, one of which is covered by a resilient (e.g. rubber) electrically-heated mat 6. The front flat member 6A is resiliently hinged by a bowed wire 6B to a supporting frame. A cuff board 5 is resiliently supported in the plane of the rear flat member 3A at its lower end so as to be pressable backwards. A stretcher board 4, to stretch the trousers as the press is closed, is supported by a spring steel wire 4B so that it can be moved from the position shown up and back into the plane of the member 3A. The stretcher board 4 is maintained parallel to the rear member 3A in the forward position by the bowed shape of the wire 4B in its support 4A on the board 4, and urged backwards by springs 4G bearing against lever portions 4F (Fig. 5, not shown) of the wire 4B, such urging being a minimum in the back position of the board 4. A spring-loaded U- shaped lever 7 with arms 7A, pivotable in the frame, supplies the pressure in the closed position of the press when grooved rollers 7C on the front flat member 6A fit into curved sections 7F (Fig. 1, not shown) of the lever 7. The arms 7A have bent ends 7B which restrict the extent of opening of the press (as shown). Recesses 8 are provided in the rear members 4, 3A, 5 for the vertical seams of the trouser legs. A thermostat 9 and a timer (with pilot light) may be provided to control the heating. A heated resilient mat may be secured to the front flat member 6A, in addition to the mat shown.
